The WAPOSAL (Wave Power & Satellite Altimetry) project released a new cloud-optimized dataset for coastal wave energy assessment, openly accessible via the ESA Open Science Catalogue. Derived from Sentinel-3A/B and CryoSat-2 altimetry (2011–2022), it provides wave power density, zero-crossing wave period, and significant wave height at 300 m resolution. Coverage spans European Atlantic coasts, the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas, and island regions including Madeira, the Azores, the Canary Islands, and French Polynesia. Supported by the EarthCODE data engineering team, WAPOSAL is distributed in a cloud-ready format, enabling easy access for the coastal altimetry community. This resource supports renewable energy research and Europe’s 2050 climate-neutral goals by leveraging satellite altimetry for high-resolution wave energy assessments.
