ESA-NASA Workshop on AI Foundation Model for EO

From 5 to 7 May, ESA and NASA will host an International Workshop dedicated to Foundation Models (FMs). FMs revolutionize AI, enabling advances in Earth observation with minimal training. The aim of the workshop is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, share latest research and technological advances. The workshop will be in-person, however it will be livestreamed.

WORKSHOP

ESA's EarthCODE at EGU 2025

Join ESA's EarthCODE project at the upcoming EGU Conference in Vienna, Austria! We'll be presenting our latest developments in Earth Observation Open Science at the ESA booth and the Open Science & Data Help Desk. Visit us to discover how EarthCODE is advancing EO research and fostering innovation through collaborative, accessible, and reproducible science. We look forward to meeting you there!

Tracking Po River from Space

Copernicus Sentinel-2 data allow to monitor how turbidity changes with river flow and sea tides. By combining satellite imagery with ground-based measurements and advanced analytical tools, researchers are uncovering how the Po River behaves under different hydrological conditions—revealing patterns that are critical for both environmental protection and water resource management.

ESA and CNR-ISMAR inaugurate the advanced Mediterranean Lab

A major step forward in Mediterranean Sea research was taken last week, on April 7th, with the inauguration of the advanced Mediterranean open science Data Analysis Lab (MeDAL) at ESA's ESRIN Science Hub. The launch of the new initiative was formalised through the signature of a Memorandum of Intent between ESA and the Institute of Marine Science of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR). The MeDAL initiative aims to enhance scientific understanding of the Mediterranean Sea, a region critical to the livelihoods of millions, but increasingly under pressure from climate change and pollution.
